The fourth anniversary of the passing of the writer and novelist Khairy Al-Dhahabi...a novelist and intellectual legacy that remains in memory
The Ministry of Culture commemorates the fourth anniversary of the passing of the Syrian writer, intellectual, and thinker Khairy Al-Dhahabi, who enriched the Arab library with dozens of creative and intellectual works, and whose giving extended from the novel and short story to television and film scripts, radio drama, historical research, and opinion articles.
He left a legacy. A rich literary writer, he defended freedom and humanity, and devoted Syria’s presence to literature, as is evident in his novels: The Secret Library, The General, Hisham, or Turning in Place, and Sabawat Yassin.
In his novel From Damascus to Haifa, he provided literary and humanitarian testimony about his period of captivity during the October War while serving in the United Nations forces and the separation forces in the Golan, documenting from within the details of that harsh phase. In the novel The Sixth Finger, he returned to Syria during the time of Egyptian rule, recalling history with a vision that combines novelist and researcher.
He left in France before his eyes became filled with the vision of his country free from tyranny and dictatorship.
